The Proposal:
Thursday -- Greg had planned a trip to Sanibel, FL with Mike & Julie over Memorial Day weekend. We were having a great trip down to Florida, and somewhere in the conversation we started talking about marriage. I always get happy about this topic, so I was really excited – but Greg just kind of ignored the conversation and kept driving. He was singing away, just pretending that we were not talking about anything important. I was upset because he was not paying attention and was not interested so I started pouting. I was upset because I felt like we were never going to get married!
Rewind 1 week – Greg had finished his hockey season and driven home from Boise, Idaho. He had 3 days at home in Chicago with one thing in mind. He had to get a ring! With time running out, he took his parents to a jewelry store that his Uncle Mario recommended and had the perfect ring custom made. With a flight already booked to SC, he arranged for his dad and Mike to pick it up and deliver it to Florida for Memorial Day Weekend.
Friday – After a day of golf, sun, and laying on the beach we were all getting ready to go out for dinner. Greg and I were ready to go but we were waiting on Mike (apparently). Greg wanted to go for a walk on the beach, but I was hesitant because I had just gotten ready and wanted to relax. Greg insisted because it was so beautiful out on the beach at sunset – so we went. It was a beautiful night on the ocean, and the sun was just starting to set. We took a walk on the water, looked at some sea shells – it was so perfect. He told me how much he loved me, was being very romantic and sweet – and then stopped and reached in his pocket (I thought he was reaching for his phone – I definitely had no clue!) He pulled out the ring and got down on one knee – and I was instantly crying. It was the most beautiful night, so unexpected, and absolutely perfect. The ring was amazing too! He did the impossible – I was definitely surprised!
